DOLLSVILLA'S FOR CHILDREN WITH
DISABILITIES

2025 will be the year that the DollsVilla by Liliane® will find its playgrounds on a large scale with Dutch [young] children with a mental and/or physical disability. Some experience has already been gained with this in the period 1999-2024.

The Dutch Adelante Zorggroep: "A regular dollhouse with its little dolls is not usable within Adelante. Children with a motor delay or disorder can do great with the handy, robust, strong furniture of the DollsVilla by Liliane®."

PLAYING WITH A BEAUTIFUL GIFT -

FOR THE BARTIMÉUSSCHOOL ZEIST

Paula Sterkenburg is a clinical psychologist at Bartiméus and a special professor at the Faculty of Behavioural and Movement Sciences at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. She conducts research into social relationships and attachment in people with a visual and/or intellectual disability: "A very special day at Bartiméus! As a gift with the #Vroeg Employee of the Year award, Ellen Van Den Broek and Ans van Eijden received a beautiful DollsVilla made by Liliane Limpens."

The Dutch Academische werkplaats Affect-us Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam: "Today was a party at the Bartiméus school in Zeist. Ellen Van Den Broek and Ans van Eijden had a question for the children who were eagerly awaiting the unveiling of the gift under the big canvas. 'Who among you has ever won a prize?' Several fingers went up in the air. Ans and Ellen themselves had never won a prize, they said. But now they had suddenly succeeded through the prize from the magazine Vroeg. All their work, including the book 'Spelen natuurlijk' (Playing naturally), was honoured with this prize.
All nominees, including Ans and Ellen, were allowed to receive a beautiful dollhouse from a generous donor, which they could then give away to a good destination. The Bartimeus school was one of the lucky ones."

"The dollhouse or rather the DollsVilla made by Liliane Limpens invites you to play together. It is spacious, mobile and made of beautiful material. The school itself had found barbies in all shapes and sizes. Barbies with a cane, barbies with a wheelchair or with a hearing aid. The barbie with the cane was chosen to be the first to enter the DollsVilla together with a child. Playing becomes a party in this way and... very natural!"

DOLLSVILLA TO A POLISH DOLL

A DollsVilla toilet is on its way to a Polish doll. A mother in Kórnik, near Poznań, discovers this Dutch design piece of furniture.

She is going to use it as a training tool to playfully toilet-train her son > 3 years old. If he lets his favorite cuddly toy discover the toilet, it is of course a small step to himself.

DOLLSVILLA STRENGTHENS PLAYFULLY

CHILDREN WITH AUTISME AND AD[H]D

Children with autism and AD[H]D have been playing with the DollsVilla for several months during development weekends and midweeks of Happy KidsCare Delft. The professionals are enthusiastic about the effects.

“A plan of action was drawn up during a team meeting: ‘The goal of the DollsVilla is to develop a play corner that supports young people from Happy KidsCare in their social-emotional development, provides insight into their family system and helps them make play appointments during supervision. This can be achieved by means of a creative and interactive dollhouse, in which the supervisors actively participate and simultaneously observe the young people.’

What are the experiences with the DollsVilla?

“What we see in practice is that mainly young girls and boys from 6 to 10 years old use the DollsVilla. There are children who play alone, and there are children who play together. Children who are less socially skilled, for example because of a language deficit, are increasingly drawn to the DollsVilla. In addition, there are also older youth who score somewhat lower socially and emotionally and who also feel attracted to the villa.”

“During Happy Time moments, we see that children can express and explore their emotions while playing with the DollsVilla. Supervisors can observe and support them and teach them what their roles are within a family situation. It is also visible that unprocessed experiences in children with autism come to the fore. The DollsVilla offers an accessible way to talk to them about this.”

Happy KidsCare ensures that children between the ages of 6 and 18 learn a lot about themselves and others through play. In addition, the child is stimulated in its development through activities. This development stimulation is easily accessible and comes from the child's own capabilities. The young person has a place where it can count on a stable, alternative upbringing and living situation. Here, self-reliance and social skills can be worked on.
